Here's a short film Mrs Peters found that she just had to share.
Read and watch it if you dare.......!
That Chinese cockroach farm would made anyone SQUIRM!

Some scenes from Camp

Is Angus giving some wise advice or just giving a salute?
Masterchef Sophie at work!
Here Kees.... are you sure you cook it like that!
Mrs Peters checks Ari's harness. 'Look mum, no hands!
Kirsten listens to instructions from David on how to gather and identify insect life in and close to the river during the river study.
Kai and Reece showing how raft making requires ingenuity and team work.

The vertical playpen was a challenge for all!
Rafting up was an essential skill to practise on the water. How many students actually did the 'raft up walk' along the line of kayaks?

 Thoughts about Camp

Advice to Year 8 Campers

The Year 8 camp activities are a bit different to the ones in Year 7, so it is better to be prepared about some challenges like Paintball, bivouac building and sleeping. To enjoy your week at Ngamuwahine camp, it is inevitable that you must try your best at everything, because it is your last year at this intermediate, so you might as well go for everything.

One of the highlights I remembered was abseiling off the side of the rockwall. The fear flowed through me as I climbed up. Students waiting down in line looked like the size of beetles. Despite my nervous emotions, there was a great view from the top, and I could see the solar panels on the roof as well. The harness tightly fixed around my waist felt like it was trying to burn through me as I abseiled slowly down the wall. Luckily, the feeling wore off when I moved on to the next activity.
Another highlight of mine was ‘walking’ on the Postie’s walk. It was more like hanging-on-for-my-life for me, because rain chose the moment, when it was my turn, to pour for about ten minutes. Consequently, climbing up was VERY slippery and I nearly lost my grip numerous times; the wind tried its best to blow me off too. The best part of this activity was when I got dropped down to the steady ground below. I silently sighed in relief. I would recommend that it is easier to do the activity when the weather is sunny and not too windy.

Paintball is the activity that you are only allowed to do if your house wins the 12 hour relay (which is often won by our house) or, if you are a Year eight. If I were you, I would make the most of it by going for the flag because that was exactly what I did before I ran out of ammo and went back in without a gun to capture the opposition’s flag. Most flags are captured that way due to the fact that you don’t need to carry the gun, and you can run faster without it.

Before you know it, the week will pass so quickly that you might still want to stay or go home and rest. Everyone will look tired on the Monday morning if you only have a weekend to rest. My last suggestion is: rest as much as you can and don’t leave all the unpacking to your mother. I hope that you can have a great week at camp.

Kind Regards

Here is the latest homework sheet. Homework goes out on a Monday and is due in on the Friday.

If extra time has been decided for a particular task, the due date will be noted on the sheet.

All work must be completed neatly and to a high standard of presentations.

I easily recognise the rushed jobs!
