Fieldays - What an experience!!
Well we got there and we were lucky to escape the onslaught that was the weather last week. It was great from my perspective that trip went off without any hassles and that comes down to your awesome teachers and the fantastic support that we received from the parents.
The day was a busy one and there was so much to see. Please write a few sentences in the comments to talk about your highlights as well as some of the connections that you made between NZ Agriculture and our desertification topic.
Please elaborate and share your experience with everyone.

Fieldays was fun and I learnt with my group that a company called Wintec has help centers that farmers can go to and ask the staff to research things to solve a problem.
ReplyDeleteMy group was Alex K, Lucas, Michael and myself. We walked around all day, checking out the displays and collecting promotional merchandise. Some of the highlights of the day was the food tent (even though they wouldn't let me taste the wine), the innovations building, and lunch at the food court. Some of the connections I made were with the fertiliser soils and soil degradation.
ReplyDeleteFielddays was an amazing experience that we got to do.
ReplyDeletemy group found a company that gives 70-100 percent accurate weather readings for up to 12 days in advance! that would of been great to use for fielddays but we didn't need it because we had that amazing weather
Sounds like a great day. I wasn't there but in taupo MTB.
ReplyDeleteAt Fieldays, I made a lot of connections between it and our FPS topic, especially in the Innovations Building because they had a lot of ideas for better faming method. One company said they had sensors that were under crops and if it was too cold, it would send a message to the farmers so that it wouldn't grow frost.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't grow frost because farmers were able to get up and do whatever they needed to.
DeleteAt fieldays our group went to the innovation tent and looked at the displays that have been exhibited and we saw that young coal which is about 10~20 years old can be utilized as a natural fertilizer. In addition, you can grind to how you want
ReplyDeleteOur group found that Gallagher have made a wireless water monitoring system that helps to prevent water outages by providing early warnings if levels start to fall significantly. There is also a wireless pump controller to ensure that pump levels are maintained. This works by measuring the liquid level in the tank based on pressure.
ReplyDeleteWhilst at fieldays our group visited the Waikato Regional Council and discussed with them what they would like to do to stop desertification degrading New Zealand in the future. They would like to set in place planting advice for farmers to keep the soil healthy for many years to come, also fencing waterways to stop litter contaminating the water. Fieldays was fun and hope to go again in the future.
