ReplyDeleteSome farmers now use the method of rotating the paddocks when dealing with livestock. This involves moving the cows to a new paddock every 1-2 days so the grass gets time to re-grow before the cows come back.

In China grids of straw squares are being placed on the deserts, which are able to grow hardy types of grass, thusly stabilizing the desert.
ReplyDeleteIn humid areas, damaged Eco-systems can repair themselves given enough time without human disturbances. This works because Cattle eat plant matter and humans rely on water and fertile land to grow their food. As this happens the soil starts to become solid and infertile which moves people on. Now farmers notice when the dirt they move their Cattle to other places allowing the ground to repair itself before the farmers come back.

It also, measure temperature, rainfall, humidity, and even take soil samples. With this robot they were able to finnd out that 12 million hectares of land that become desert every year.

ReplyDeleteA solution for desertification that already exists is using fire to remove dead material. Using it to eliminate dead plants lets new plants grow, but isn't the best solution that is available as it also destroys soil over a time period.
